Chapulines

Week 13

Another week in the promised land! Every week I grow to love Oaxaca more and more and am convinced it is the best place for missionary work (sorry to my other missionaries homies, but it's true) 💪


It rained SO MUCH this week. We are entering September which everyone calls the month of rain, and for good reason. And when it rains here, it's no joke. We're talking POURING buckets of water and floods in the street. One day we got caught in it without umbrellas or jackets and got super drenched. But, the work goes forward in any weather 🌊

Saw a lot of miracles. Our friend Luis Enrique accepted the invitation to be baptized! He professed to be atheist when we met him, but we didnt believe him and now he wants to be baptized, so i guess we know who was right 🤷‍♀️. His cousin is a recent convert so it's super fun to teach them together and watch them learn and grow in their testimonies. 
Also ate chapulines (grasshoppers) for the first time! They are a super popular food here, and they were actually super bomb. My companion and I took down a whole bag like no one's business. Check out the Google photos to see the vids🦗

We had a LOT of plans fall through this week, which is always super frustrating. But luckily the sucky days are always worth it because we have so many good things and miracles happen. The Savior is definitely walking with us everyday (even in the rain) and I have been able to see Him in our lives so much recently.
"What are men compared to rocks and mountains?" (I think that's the quote? Someone go watch Pride and Prejudice for me and let me know plz)

This week I listened to one of my absolute favorite hymns "Israel, Israel God is Calling", and the words of the second verse really stood out to me:
"Israel, Israel, God is speaking.
Hear your great Deliv’rer’s voice! 
Now a glorious morn is breaking 
For the people of his choice. 
Come to Zion, come to Zion, 
And within her walls rejoice. 
Come to Zion, come to Zion, 
And within her walls rejoice.”

Some days I wish I could just sing this song instead of teach, because it really is the message that we are sharing! We are inviting them to come and hear the voice of the Lord and the good news that He has! Our message really is one of joy, and it is so amazing to witness the rejoicing that happens in the Savior's name everyday. 💓

Not too exciting this week, but the work is moving and the Savior lives. That's all that matters! Love you all, update me on your lives (plz)!
