San Blas: The Windy City 🌬

Week 43

I never know how to start these.  

Hope everyone is well! Another week has passed in the work of the Lord! What happened in this little corner of Oaxaca? Let me tell ya:

- exchanges with Hermana Holyan, the only other American hermana in the zone, were littttt. She is Native American from a reserve in Arizona and I got to hear all about her traditions and culture. It was pretty cool. We also nonchalantly hiked the hills of San Blas while proselytizing. My calves are getting ripped here 🧗‍♀️

- put two people, Edwin and Luisa, on date for baptism! San Blas is absolutely BRIMMING with potential with people that are on the brink of making a covenant with God. It’s been fun helping them work toward that step!

- one of the sisters in the ward fed us lunch, but she works selling food in a high school. It was the most awkward thing ever. Schools are way different here. We basically just walked right in.  She sat us down at a table right next to a bunch of high schoolers and gave us food. Just imagine if your were in 10th grade and 2 missionaries just walked into your school, ate lunch then left. It was a funny experience. II was left wondering what they thought a white girl was doing at their school lol

- found a baby goat knocking doors and they let me take a picture

-tried to put another girl on date for baptism, but she said that her grandma told her she would hex her if she joined another church so that was a downer 🧙‍♀️

-IT IS. SO. WINDY. HERE. I come home full of dirt and embarrassment every day. Wind+dress+lots of people in the street=bad combo. Trust me on that one 🙅‍♀️

- had lots of friends come watch General Conference on Sunday! It's very different here in the sense that people don't watch Conference at home because they have no internet or anything. If they watch it it's almost always in the church and basically no one comes on Saturday hahah. BUT we had a decent turnout on Sunday that we were happy with!

Speaking of General Conference.....

IT WAS GREAT.

Some of the talks I loved the most were from Micheal B Strong, Ricardo P Gimenez, Henry B Eyring, and Patrick Kearon. But one of the quotes that I really liked was from Elder John A McCune:

"Jesus Christ is both the example and the means. In Christ, we can understand better the perfect attributes of the Father and His plan. Through Christ, we are given the enabling power to overcome the tendencies of natural men and women so that we might become more like the Father." 

I'm working on being able to access the enabling power of the Atonement more in my life, and I hope you all can too!!
